Health Cluster Exhibit takes center stage at NSTW 2023 in Iloilo City

In a historic move, the Department of Science and Technology holds the National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (NSTW) outside Metro Manila for the first time, bringing its 2023 edition to the city of Iloilo, hosting a diverse range of events that underscore the theme, “Siyensya, Teknolohiya, at Inobasyon sa Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Kinabukasan” on November 22-26, at Iloilo Convention Center (ICON), Iloilo City.

A total of 21 health research projects supported by the DOST-attached agencies, Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), along with contributions from Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI) and Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) will be featured at the Health Cluster exhibit that represents a collaborative effort to address critical health challenges faced by the Filipino populace.

In line with NSTW’s shift to the region, the PCHRD will put a spotlight on the regional health research expertise with the conduct the HeaRT Report: Unveiling Health R&D Breakthroughs on November 23, 2023, at Function Room 4 of the Iloilo Convention Center. The forum, themed “Empowering regional expertise for sustainable health advancements,” aims to showcase PCHRD-supported health research projects based in Iloilo, foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among stakeholders, and raise awareness about the pivotal role of health research in enhancing the nation’s healthcare system and the well-being of Filipinos.

PCHRD Executive Director Dr. Jaime Montoya expressed the significance of this commitment, stating, “This marks a significant commitment from PCHRD to not only highlight the strides in health research but also to specifically focus on the unique challenges and opportunities present in Iloilo City.”

DOST plans to continue the tradition of holding the event in the province every year, aiming to feature homegrown scientists and researchers from various local state universities and colleges (SUCs) which have been instrumental in contributing to research and development initiatives, addressing pressing concerns across various industry sectors.

The NSTW 2023, featuring techno-exhibits, S&T Fora, and techno-demonstrations, simultaneous conduct of S&T activities in satellite venues within the city aims to integrate science and technology with the rich cultural wonders of Iloilo, including museums, marinas, and other tourist destinations, providing participants with a holistic experience.

As the anticipation builds for the upcoming NSTW in Iloilo City, the stage is set for an immersive and enlightening experience that not only celebrates scientific achievements but also fosters collaboration, innovation, and awareness around the critical role of research and technology in shaping a sustainable future for the Philippines.
