DOST-PCHRD scholar is sole PH participant in International Liver Congress 2022
Supported by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), Dr. Noel C. Salvoza is the sole participant from the Philippines in the International Liver Congress held at ExCeL London, United Kingdom last 22 to 26 June 2022.
Hosted by the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), the annual Congress provides a platform for discussion on different topics related to hepatology, such as cirrhosis, liver tumors, and hepatitis.
In the international congress, Dr. Salvoza presented his research poster entitled, “In Silico Identification and Validation of Plasma Ficolin-2 (FCN-2) as Non-Invasive Biomarker of Fibrosis in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD),” which focused on evaluating a potential biomarker for NAFLD with the significant risk of progressing to fibrosis. Aside from presenting his study, Dr. Salvoza participated in several activities for knowledge exchange, networked with other researchers from different countries, and signed up as a member of the EASL.
“I strongly believe that the knowledge and experience that I gained from this conference would be essential to my career as a doctor-scientist,” Dr. Salvoza said. “Further, my participation in the International Liver Congress™ 2022 gave me the possibility to meet other researchers in the field and to start the collaborations of the future Philippine Liver Network,” he added.
“The DOST-PCHRD congratulates Dr. Salvoza for presenting his research poster at the International Liver Congress. We are proud to see how he continues to succeed in his endeavors along with his continuing commitment to pursue initiatives related to liver diseases as a pressing healthcare burden,” DOST-PCHRD Executive Director Dr. Jaime C. Montoya said.
Dr. Salvoza is currently enrolled in the PhD Program in Molecular Biomedicine at the University of Trieste in Italy as a DOST-PCHRD scholar.
