THE PROBLEM

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global infectious health crisis affecting thousands of individuals yearly. Despite advancements in treatments, the disease continues to spread, fueled by factors such as patient behaviors including non-adherence, inadequate healthcare infrastructure, in addition to geographical and economic factors, lack of access to finance, and the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The need for innovative health technologies to improve outcomes and reduce the global TB burden is integral.

THE SOLUTION

CareGo Health Suite, developed by CP Health Innovations, Inc., is an innovative online clinic management system that leverages low-cost personalized SMS health reminders to enhance patient adherence to TB treatment. By harnessing the widespread accessibility of mobile phones, CareGo Health Suite sends timely reminders to patients as tested and verified by the Rural Health Unit (RHU), prompting them to adhere to their scheduled treatment and prescribed medication for successful treatment completion, this in turn enables the RHU to enhance completion of treatment, resulting to increased reimbursement through the Philhealth TB-DOTS package. The project team has successfully oriented and trained the Dasmarinas City Health Office I and the several rural health units in Mankayan, Danao, and Lanuza. This proactive approach addresses the challenges of patient forgetfulness and inconsistent treatment, ultimately improving anti-TB drug treatment outcomes and reducing the spread of TB. The improved integration of CareGo Health Suite to TB treatment ensures efficient delivery of medication and treatment reminders, strengthening the patients’ control of their health, contributing to a healthier future for all. CareGo Health Suite distinguishes itself by offering a full suite of clinic management features, including inventory and remote monitoring of multiple branches and enabling health workers to manage health facility operations in one platform.

The startup garnered significant recognition for their innovative platform. In May 2024, CP Health Innovations, Inc. was honored with a Benita and Catalino Yap Foundation Innovation Award. This prestigious award underscores the compelling nature of CareGo Health Suite, proving its potential as a promising digital health tool in addressing TB cases.

TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT STATUS

The technology is currently at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 7. CareGo Health Suite has been successfully piloted in its operational environment, among RHUs and customer private clinics in Metro Manila.
