Forum 2015: Identifying solutions to the world’s unmet health needs through research, innovation

The Council on Health Research for Development (COHRED), in partnership with the Philippine Department of Health (Philippine DOH) and Philippine Department of Science and Technology (Philippine DOST), has organized the Global Forum on Research and Innovation for Health in Manila on 24-27 August 2015.

Themed “People at the Center of Health Research and Innovation,” the Forum 2015 will bring together some of the world’s leading stakeholders from the government, business, non-profit, international organizations, academic and research institutions and social entrepreneurs, among others to tackle many of the biggest global health issues and create effective partnerships for action on research and innovation for health.

“The forum is geared to help participants acquire new understandings of current and future challenges in global health, as we together find appropriate solutions sourced from all corners of the world,” said Philippine DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo.

About 3,000 delegates from 50 countries are expected to participate in the more than 70 conference sessions of the system-focused subthemes on Increasing the Effectiveness of Research and Innovation for Health through Social Accountability, Increasing Investments, Country-driven Capacity Building and issue-focused subthemes on the Role of Research and Innovation in Health in improving Food and Nutrition Safety and Security, Health in Mega Cities, Disaster Risk Reduction.

“Forum 2015 is a timely opportunity to take prime position in defining the global health research agenda. As the world’s focus shifts from development to sustainable development, from poverty eradication to shared prosperity, and from disease-specific goals to universal health care,” said DOH Secretary Janette P. Loreto-Garin.

Other highlights include New Leaders for Health Pre-Forum, IT4Health: Innovations for Global Health, Film Festival, Global Health Debates, Photo Exhibit and the Networking Party.
